Kingston Post Office


Kingston Post Office, formerly known as Canberra East Post Office and prior to that Eastlake Post Office, received its name change on 1st October 1944. Postmaster was C. A. Donnelly. The office originally operated from  shop premises in Giles Street and in early 1952 relocated to purpose built premises at the corner of Giles and Jardine Streets in Kingston.

As at February 2020, Kingston Post Shop was operating from 19 Jardine street, Kingston, essentially an extension of the original building.

The office utilized Type 3(i) x2 ‘ACT’ date stamps between 1944 & 1987. A Type 3(ii)(T) ‘ACT’ date stamp was used between 1953 & 1968 and a Type 3D(i) ‘ACT’ date stamp between 1963 & 1988. A Type 4A(i)(T) ‘ACT’ post code 2604 date stamp was used between 1977 & 1990. A.C.T. Relief '127' was reported used at the Office between 17 April and 27 April 1984. Priority Paid Relief date stamp '185' has been seen used at the Office on 25 July 1986 and Priority Paid Relief date stamp '186' on 20 April 1990.
