Ainslie (II)

Ainslie Post Office (II)

A non-official post office was opened on 1 May 1950 in what was then the only shop built at the Ainslie shopping centre. The office was operated by R. W. Munyard. A telephone service was established in the second quarter and then on 4 September 1950 money order and savings bank facilities were introduced. Upon completion of the Ainslie shopping centre later that year delivery staff, who by this time were servicing the new housing of Ainslie, parts of Lyneham and part of O’Connor, moved into a new shop in the centre on 9 December 1957. The office is located at 3 Edgar Street in the Ainslie shopping centre and today is a Licensed Post Office within the Ainslie Newsagency.

A Type 3(i) ‘ACT’ date stamp is recorded as being in use between 1954 and 1991.
