Harman Post Office


H.M.A.S Harman, Canberra was the central administration area of the Royal Australian Navy’s resources in the Australian Capital Territory. A post and telegraph office was established at H.M.A.S Harman Naval Base on Canberra Avenue, south east of Fyshwick and bordering Queanbeyan West, NSW on 22 June 1943 operated by F W King. Money order facilities were introduced by 1946 and a Commonwealth Savings Bank Agency on 6 May 1948. The office closed on 31 October 1988.

A Type 3(i) ‘ACT’ date stamp was utilized between 1944 and 1983.
