Macquarie (II)


Macquarie Post Office (II)


Located approximately 8 kms from the City centre in the Macquarie shopping centre, Macquarie Place, Macquarie, Belconnen district, the Macquarie post office (II) originally opened as Macquarie West post office on 1 April 1968. The name was changed on 2 January 1969, operated by Marjorie Cuthbertson. The office temporarily closed on 2 September 1982 and reopened on 15 November 1982, operated by J E Sykes. The office closed on 27 March 1987.

The office utilized a Type 3E(i) ‘ACT’ (ex Macquarie (I)) date stamp recorded between 1975 and 1979.

Macquarie West


Macquarie West Post Office

Located approximately 8 kms from the City centre in the Macquarie shopping centre, Macquarie Place, Macquarie, Belconnen district, the Macquarie West post office opened as a post and telephone office with money order facilities on 1 April 1968, operated by Mavis Sealey. The office name was changed to Macquarie post office (II) on 2 January 1969.

On opening the office utilized Relief date stamp ‘125 ACT AUST’, also used at Macquarie Post Office (I).
