Canberra RAAF Post Office




An official post office was established at R.A.A.F Station Fairbairn east of Canberra Aerodrome on 18 November 1940. It was subsequently designated a non-official office on 30 June 1947 operated by B P Collins. Following designation as a non-official office the date stamp, "R.A.A.F. 4100" used by the R.A.A.F postal service, continued in use.

The office utilized a Type 3(i) ‘R.A.A.F.  P.O. / A.C.T. AUST’ date stamp 1941 and 1942. A Type 2A ‘R.A.A.F. P.O CANBERRA / A.C.T’ is recorded between 1948 and 1968 and a Type 4A(ii) ‘CANBERRA R.A.A.F. / ACT – 2600’ is recorded 1974 to 1982.

A.C.T. cut down Relief date stamp 'C  B' is recorded used at the Office between January and March 1953.
