Canberra East Post Office




The Canberra East Post Office formerly operated as Eastlake Post Office, the name changing on 1st January 1929.  Postmaster was Mr C. C. Harris and the office operated from shop premises in Giles Street (Kingston). On 1 October 1944 the name was changed to Kingston and in early 1952 the office relocated to purpose built facilities at the corner of Giles and Jardine Streets.

Canberra East Post Office utilized a Type 2A ‘FCT’ date stamp 26mm in size between 1930 & 1936. Between 1932  & 1937 it utilized a Type 2C ‘FCT’ date stamp 28mm in size. Between 1940 & 1944 the office used a Type 2C ‘ACT’ date stamp which had possibly been altered from FCT.
