Kambah Post Office (I)


Situated approximately 18 kms south west of the City centre in the Tuggeranong district, Kambah post office opened as an automatic exchange on 26 June 1974 and a post and telephone office with money order facilities on 7 May 1975, operated by P G Petrou. The office was located at the shopping centre in Mannheim Street Kambah. The office closed on 20 April 1977.

An official post office opened some 5 months later on 12 September 1977 at another location. It was operated by W B Adam Kambah is the largest suburb in the ACT and the most northern of the Tuggeranong District suburbs. The Office subsequently closed on 27 June 1986 and was replaced by a Post Office Agency at the nearby Kambah Village and an Official Post Office at Wanniassa.

Kambah post office utilized a Type 4A(i) ‘ACT’ post code 2902 date stamp recorded between 1976 and 1986. A Type 4E(i) ‘ACT’ date stamp is recorded between 1978 and 1982. A Type 4E(i)T code ‘1’ date stamp is recorded in use in 1982.
