Duntroon Military Camp Post Office
Postal facilities for workers employed on constructing buildings at the Royal Military College were first considered in June of 1911. At that time all mail for the facility was being processed through Queanbeyan Post Office. On 26 August 2011 a temporary facility was established with an officer from Queanbeyan attending the college each payday. A ‘Queanbeyan A’ rubber date stamp was utilized and in November a mailbox was established. Savings bank facilities were added on 16th December 1911. In 1916 it was decided to open a post and telegraph office at the College. The office was established in a temporary building near the Quartermaster’s store and canteen opening on 22 March 1916. It subsequently closed on 20 December 1916 and reopened again on 1 February 1917. The office finally closed on 7 February 1918. The office was replaced by Duntroon Post Office.
