Fyshwick Post Office (III)

Located in the industrial suburb of Fyshwick, 9 kms south east of the City centre, the Fyshwick post office originally opened as a post, telephone and money order office on 8 June 1959, operated by F J McCowan. The office temporarily closed on 31 October 1959 before re-opening at another location on 7 May 1962.

Having operated at the two previous locations where it last closed on 22 September 1965, the office reopened in Townsville Street, Fyshwick on 13 November 1967 operated by W A Irvine. The office became an official post office on 21 May 1973 and an automated exchange on 30 September 1975. On the weekend of 29 - 30 June 1985 the Office reportedly moved to new accommodation on Wollongong street, which was more centrally located.

In October 1991, the previous premises being too small, new accommodation on the corner of Townsville Street and Bodalla Place, behind Cannon's Food Barn was opened. The First Floor of the building was open to private leasing, the first time in Canberra that commercial activity was included in an Australia Post building.

As at February 2020, Fyshwick Post Office was operating from 22 Townsville Street, Fyshwick. This office incorporates the Business Hub.
