Gudgenby

Gudgenby Post Office

Located approximately 50 kms from Adaminaby in the far south of what is now the Australian Capital Territory, Gudgenby originally opened as Bobeyan receiving office on 1 February 1894, operated by W F Sinclair. The name of the office was changed to Gudgenby on 21 April 1906. The office was operated by A Masters. On 1 January 1927 the office was reclassified a post office and on 29 September 1927 a telephone service was established. On 1 June 1931 the post office closed and became a telephone office operated by T E Oldfield. A manual telephone exchange was established on 20 July 1937. The office closed on 31 May 1955 and subscribers were transferred to Rocky Crossing.

A manuscript cancellation is known to have been used 1914 and possibly a Type 2A date stamp thereafter.
