Dickson Post Office
Located in Dickson Place, Dickson, 4 kms from the City centre, Dickson post office originally opened as an official post office on 10 December 1962, at what was known as the PMG Line Office, corner of Cape & Cowper Streets. The Acting Postmaster was Mr Norman Hector. In January 2020, the Office was known as Dickson Post Shop, operating from 48 Dickson Place, Dickson.
On 21 August 1964, there was an attempt by intruders to burn the premises down. The new Post Office opened on 3 November 1965.
Frederick Mortimer was appointed Postmaster at Dickson on 6 September 1967.
At opening the Office utilised A.C.T. cut down Relief date stamps 'IND' and 'STL'. The Office
subsequently utilized Type 3D(i) ‘ACT’ date stamps recorded between 1964 and 1982. Type
3D(i)(T) date stamp is recorded between 1970 and 1982 and Type 3E(i) between
1967 and 1988. Type 4A(i) post code 2602 is recorded between 1976 and 1982.
Type 4F codes ‘4 and 5’ are recorded between 1991 and 1995.
On 7 March 1973, a rubber date stamp was introduced for the purposes of Cancelling first-day covers. The same date stamp was utilised when the Office became a limited philatelic sales centre in April 1978.
Priority Paid Relief '186' was seen used at the Office on 18 January 1989.
