Belconnen Mail Delivery Centre
Belconnen Mail Delivery Centre established to service the growing population of the Belconnen District, opened on 22 September 1975. The Centre was located at 6 Cohen Street Belconnen, west of Belconnen Police Station.
The Office was renamed Belconnen Delivery Centre on 1 March 1995.
As at January 2020, the facility operates in conjunction with the Belconnen Post Office Business Centre. However, surprisingly staff advise that they do not use date-stamps in their work.
The Centre utilized a Type 4A(i)
‘BELCONNEN ACT 2617’ date stamp, recorded in the period 1976 to 1978 and a Type
4E(i)(T) ‘ BELCONNEN MDC ACT 2617’ date stamp recorded between 1984 and 1987. An early version of this date stamp read 'BELCONNEN MOC' which was subsequently changed to MDC. A
Type 4F code 2 date stamp is recorded in 1989 and a Type 4F in the period 1989
to 1991.
Priority Paid Relief '187' was used at the Centre 22 November to 10 December 1982. It was utilised as a back-stamp on Priority Paid articles received from Canberra Mail Centre for delivery.
